Third APEC Senior Officials Meeting – Day 1
The “Third APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM3) and related events” is underway in Lima from August 11 to 25 with the presence of senior officials from the 21 economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC).
The first session of the senior officials meeting focused on reporting on the work carried out to address the priorities set for APEC PERU 2024. Moreover, issues related to trade and investment for inclusive and interconnected growth were likewise addressed.
During the session, the results of the Ministerial Meetings on Energy, Food Security and the High-Level Meeting on Health, Food and Economy held a few days ago were presented.
Ambassador Carlos Vásquez, president of the APEC 2024 Senior Officials Meetings, highlighted several important achievements of the recent ministerial meetings already held and invited officials to actively participate in upcoming discussions.
“(The meisters’) experience and knowledge are crucial as we continue to work towards a more prosperous, balanced, inclusive and resilient Asia-Pacific region.”
Minister Renato Reyes, Peru’s Senior Official before APEC, underscored the importance of these ministerial meetings where the 21 APEC economies have reached various consensus on key results hoping to continue replicating these results during the rest of APEC PERU 2024.
“These events provide important opportunities for dialogue, collaboration and progress on key economic issues. We look forward to continuing with the important consensus-based results and advances that will emerge from these meetings,” he detailed.
Also present at this meeting was Dr. Rebecca Sta Maria, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat.
Finally, on the last day of SOM3, a special session will be held when SO for Peru Minister Reyes Tagle will present the zero draft of the roadmap to promote the transition to the formal and global economy.
