Day 11 of the Second APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting and related events explored strategies to increase the inclusion of women in STEM, share entrepreneurial experiences, formalize the informal economy and promote inclusive trade.

PPWE Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy Plenary Meeting | Day 2

On May 14, the plenary meeting of the PPWE Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy Plenary Meeting culminated. On this second day of meetings, member economies addressed issues related to structural reform, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, women in technology and STEM.

The meeting was highly productive, allowing delegates to reflect and share information on how to bridge the digital divide in order to increase women’s access to technology and provide greater economic, educational and empowerment opportunities that can significantly improve their quality of life and contribute to economic growth and gender equity.

The session also provided a platform for women entrepreneurs from diverse economies to share their experiences in leadership and economic inclusion, offering valuable lessons and helping to identify the challenges and opportunities facing women in business.

PPD Public-Private Dialogue on Best Practices for the Transition of Economic Actors from Informal to Formal Economy | Day 2

The second day of the Public-Private Dialogue on Best Practices for the Transition of Economic Actors from Informal to Formal Economy, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ComexPeru, began with the presentation of short videos showing successful cases that illustrate the journey of individuals or companies in the transition from the informal to the formal economy.

At least 100 delegates from various economies participated in this event, which began with a report from Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism on the main conclusions of the CTI Policy Dialogue on promoting inclusive trade to foster the growth of MSMEs and the transition to the formal economy. Minister Renato Reyes, Senior APEC Official from Peru, then presented a summary of the first day of the event.

This was followed by a discussion among APEC Senior Officials on the conclusions of the Public-Private Dialogue and the development of a roadmap to promote the transition to the formal and global economy. The panel featured five Senior Officials on stage, who participated in an interactive session with both Senior Officials and delegates from the audience.

To conclude, Ambassador Carlos Vasquez, APEC SOM Chair 2024 , highlighted the main results of these two days of this important event.
