The III APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting is gathering representatives from 21 member economies with the purpose of strengthening cooperation in several key areas for the region. Meanwhile, the Ministerial Meeting on Food Security and related events are taking place in Trujillo.

During this meeting, documents were prepared for discussion at the Finance Ministerial Meeting (FMM) in October in Lima.

The statement was issued following a joint meeting held in Arequipa, Peru, on May 17, and reflects the results of the first joint meeting of women’s ministers and trade ministers from APEC’s 21 member economies.

Two important declarations promoted by Peru for the benefit of the development of Asia-Pacific economies were approved.

The 2nd APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM2) began and the Women and the Economy Forum was inaugurated.

Addressed topics such as the transition from the informal to the formal economy, the role of women and girls in the economic development of the Asia-Pacific region, and disaster management.

The plenary meeting of the APEC’s Emergency Preparedness Working Group (EPWG) was held, among other events related to SOM2.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration among stakeholders working to address the impacts of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region continued.

The workshop on prevention and reduction of climate risks in vulnerable communities in Asia-Pacific began, focused on strengthening collaboration among stakeholders.
